90's brightest and funnest momments and quotes (part 2): Raul Julia, El Puertorriqueño Rei del Humor

Well, it's been a while since I last posted. I've been too busy lately setting up  my one year trip to the US and trying to keep up with my Med School. But no excuses anymore. Let's go back to the 90's again and check the best quotes from Raul Julia's 90's work on Addam's Family Duology and The Street Fighter The Final Battle. These films are probably under rated today, especially the latter, but when it comes to Raul Julia's talented acting performance and comical skills, there's no doubt the guy was a genius. Hollywood lost a lot with his death, and next year will be his 20's death anniversary (It sounds creepy to state like that but maybe that's the way Mr. Gomez Addams would like to be remembered). Only God knows the wanders this man could have accomplished if he were still alive. It's not by chance I'm a huge fan of his work: He made what I consider the best 3 comedies of the 90's and that's all I know so far of his work. I definitely  need to see his previous films.

RAUL JULIA in THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1991)

Quote 1

- Have no fear, Justice shall prevail. The courts will decide.
They say a man who represents himself has a fool for a client. Well with God as my witness I am that fool!

Quote 2 (Cara Mia)

- Oh, Tish, that's French.
- Oui. (Morticia)
- Cara mia!

RAUL JULIA in STREET FIGHTER THE LAST BATTLE (1994)
Fan boys can say what they want but Raul Julia saved SF the Last Battle from being an ordinary terrible game adaptation to be one of the greatest comedies of all time.

Quote 3 (For me, it was Tuesday)

Quote 4 (Pax Bisonica)

Quote 5 (Bison Dollars)

So, what do you think? What are your thoughts on Raul Julia? What other moments of his career should be added? Leave me a comment or a link. Be always welcome and Merry Christmas!

90's Brightest Moments and quotes (part 1) The Addams Family Values

This sequel is probably one of the fewest and honorable cases that overcomes the first film, you probably watched this film but the likelihood  that you got its best comical and satirical parts are very low considering that most of the web diggers now are around 20 and something, the movie is 20 years old. So that's why I've stated on the previous post that is important to watch it again. Only then you'll be ready to enjoyed it to its fullest and  will be able to rate it on the IMDB web site:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106220/?ref_=nv_sr_3

Let's begin with our lovely and eternal Wednesday Addams (Portrayed by the still gorgeous Christina Ricci).

    - Our parents are having a baby too - Pugsley Addams
    - They had sex. - Wednesday Addams being very straight forward to a little kid that believed she was sent from a stork by the orders of an Angel.

- Children, Why do you hate the baby? - Gomez Addams
- We don't hate him, we just wanna play with him - Pugsley Addams
- Especially with his head - Wednesday Addams

- Death, death to the enemies of the people of the republic. - Sentence of death proclaimed by Wednesday Addams when she plotted to kill her youngest brother like a french revolutionary.

                                              - I can't swim

 - Brava! That's actually should go to Wednesday for her amazingly scary,  cold and comical acting.

 - Your work is puerile and under-dramatized you lack any sense of structure, character or the Aristotelian units - Wednesday giving a lecture to the boring summer camp leader, Gary. (My favorite speech)

It's not by chance at all that this sexy gothic lady got a bigger part in this sequel. Is it wrong state she really looked sexy? I mean, I was just 5 back in 1993 and now she's 33. Anyway, better stop the jokes before some dumb ass call the police. For now, we are done, Coming next a few more Wednesday and a Lot more Raul Julia, the Puerto Rican  Don Juan.

Brightest 90's moments and quotes.

Ok, enough of reviews (even though I've made only two, what a shame!). The thing is I am making this blog more to me than to anyone, it's like a movie diary where I can make records of the best films I've seen, keeping  in mind ( on the cloud to be more precise) the most remarkable moments and quotes of movie history.

So, we will begin our trip throughout the seventh art's history not in chronological order  but instead starting from a decade where I was 100% a child and 100% happy, even though I would rather be a teenager at that time. Let's begin from the 90's. It's like they say now the 90's is the new and so beloved 80's (or maybe I was the first to state it). Anyways, that decade was really prosperous to Hollywood. It brought to our attention marvelous actors like Raul Julia, Christina Ricci,  Christopher Loyd (ok, this one got already recognized in the 80's but there's a good reason why he is on that list )  and so on. It was also a sad decade that took away from us some of these outstanding actors like Raul Julia.

All right, enough blah blah blah, I'm going to start this section making the usual recommendation, watch the following movie specially if you are at your early or even latest 20's. It's a little under rated one (according to IMDB it took 6,4 from 10) maybe because it's a sequel but I think is mainly because the audience were too young at that time and wasn't ready to enjoy it. On the next post the best moments and quotes from the Addams Family Values...

J J Abrams Star Trek Review

Ok, I know I told I would talk about Iron Man 3, but you know what? Screw it! Iron Man 3 is a shame for the movie and comic industry, it's not even worth as a comedy movie, if you are a fan of the Mandarin and stuff forget it, don't waste your time you'll just get pissed off. And if you Like it, fuck you.

  PROS
As the new Star Trek is coming I took the shot and went watching the 2009 J J Abrams adaptation tonight, 4 years ago I wasn't feeling like seeing that movie, first because I was never a fan of Star Trek and second J J Abrams never impressed me with the most over rated show of all times, LOST, so I decided to save my money and went to see Wolverine Origins, that I'm kinda figuring out it was a poor choice.
This Star Trek reboot was fantastic, it made me dig into the show, now characters like Romulans, Vulcans and Klingons are in my mind. The script was simple but sci-fi enough and the actors fit very well to their roles. I'm pretty sure to say that this Star Trek kicked Star Wars Episode I, II and III asses. Which makes me optimistic for the Star Trek sequel and a little less for the Star Wars new Trilogy coming around, since J. J. Abrams was just the Director of Star Trek and the screen writers will be different and they are the truly to be thanked of.
For now on I can just wish good luck for the crew and cast of Star Wars VII-IX and that these fanboys around the galaxy don't get mad at it as they got with Iron Man III.

CONS
I didn't find any to be honest, maybe they could've explored the original soundtrack more (I'm not sure if what they played was in the original series, just the music from the credits I recognized as being in the earlier TV show). BUT, as I'm not a huge fan, and haven't been fallowing the show from its roots I can't tell for sure if this movie was reliable to be part of the franchise. It was a great sci-fi movie anyway and you can enjoy it even if for that you need to erase it's title.

SCORE
9,0 - (It's totally worth it!)
Feel free to disagree, leave a comment. Live long and prosper, losers!

Hello Planet earth, welcome to the Blog of movies and games reviews that will update you and let you aware of the pros and cons of the latest industry releases in a huge delay.

Enough talking already, let's get started with the oldie but goodie friendly neighborhood, Spider Man, more precisely the not so amazing last movie released last year.

The Amazing Spider Man Review

 CONS

First of all, I would like to say that I got really disappointed when I saw the result of The Amazing Spider Man on the theaters, I was expecting a movie with a more appealing and mysterious approach, with a well made plot and a narrative at least as good as that from the first movie. It turns out that it didn't happen. The movie screwed up with most of the essence of the spider man character and the message that he should share with the younger audience. To begin with, how many nerds do you know that ride a skateboard? And, why the heck his uncle couldn't say with this very words: ''With great powers come great responsibilities'', I mean he said that in a much more long way, it would be much easier if he had memorized that sentence (and this is a really big issue for the franchise). Long story short, the beginning of the movie was a failed attempt to recreate a character that we already know and love. The development of the hero was a lame, several points that shouldn't be changed were messed up: Uncle Ben's death was too casual and at the same time too boring, Peter tireless pursuit for the guy who killed his uncle was very weird and also boring (he didn't get his uncles message), the way he arrived at home with his face torn apart and his aunt May doing nothing about it but getting worried, I mean her nephew was seeming to be on crack. All that really annoys me until now (as I'm a huge fan of the web head) but I guess that some of those mistakes (a few actually) could be erased or clarified in the next movie.

PROS

Let me just correct myself in some issues, first of all, the script of this movie was clearer more thought than the first movie, and here it goes why: This movie was clearer made with the assumption of a second one on the horizon, the story is very dependent of a sequel, nothing was really told about peter's parents, just the fact that his father worked with Dr. Connors at Oscorp, what you could have deduced (actually was explicitly stated on the trailers) from the trailer, their death are still a mystery (Spoiler Alert: Norman Osborn might be involved) but the untold story that was the slogan of this movie was pretty much still untold. So, the first movie was pretty much a tease for you to go see the second one (meanwhile the first 3 spider man were independent from each other and their plot just got worse with each sequel), see how Gwen Stacy will die (Yes she gonna die Muahahah!), who will play MJ Watson and what's the big mystery about Mr and Mrs Parker death.
To be honest some stuff  worked super well in that movie, like the Lizard, to me he is the best spidey enemy so far. Doc. Curtis Connors is this very ethical scientist who wishes to regenerate his right arm (I guess it's right, right?) but he sees himself pushed to try the serum with lizard DNA in himself (already programed with a ''reliable'' decay algorithm thanks to peter's father) since his contract with Oscorp was shut down for dead line issues. He did it for a good purpose actually, once the bad Indian guy from Oscorp (the one nobody cares knowing the name) was about to try the Serum at the Veteran Hospital. So, despite the absurd character development for the web swinger I could say that the Lizard almost save the day (You can say it's a cliche enemy but he was sticked to the comic character and that is a big deal for me), and the second movie can almost save the entire franchise if and only if they don't come up with any stupid plot twist like in Iron Man 3 (our next review btw).
See you losers!

Human trials next week already?! Ok, maybe not so ethical.

So my score to this movie would be (from 0 to 10. Brazilian old school grade system):

Script: 8.0 (good)
Direction: 6,0 (under the average)
Average role play: 7,0 (already expected from not so good actors)
Visual effects and action scenes: 8,5 (yes it does matter!)
Soundtrack: 9,0 (special attention for the Ganali device theme, beautiful)

Overall score: 7,72 (It's worth watching to get tease for the sequel)
